Temple, Texas - January 13, 2014 – The United Way of Central Texas (UWCT) is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax season kick-off reception on Saturday, January 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the UWCT office, 604 N. 3rd Street in Temple.

The meeting is open to anyone in the community who is interested in serving as a VITA volunteer for this tax season, or those who have already committed to being a volunteer. All participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the VITA program and to have any questions they have answered.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who make low to moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly and those having limited English proficiency. IRS certified VITA volunteers provide basic income tax return services without charge, ensuring 100% of the tax refund goes directly to the customer.

In 2014, the UWCT VITA partnership brought back about $1 million dollars in tax refunds back to about 700 low-income clients in our community.
