United Way of Central Hosting 14th Annual Day of Caring

Temple, Texas- October 02, 2015- United Way of Central Texas (UWCT) will be hosting its 14th annual Day of Caring on Friday, October 2, 2015. Close to 400 Central Texas volunteers are taking the time to participate in volunteer service projects throughout the community.

Day of Caring Schedule:
7:30 a.m. Breakfast and Kick-off at Hilton Garden Inn (1749 Scott Blvd., Temple)
8:30 a.m. Begin local service projects

From painting and landscaping to housing restoration, volunteers will be taking on a variety of projects that would not be possible without the teamwork of our community here in Central Texas.

"We want to create meaningful service projects for volunteers, "said UWCT Director of Marketing and Volunteerism Mary Beth Kelton. "Central Texans have a heart for giving back. We work together, as a team, to make our community a better place for all."

The volunteers will start their day at 7:30 a.m. with a kick-off at Hilton Garden Inn. After breakfast, volunteers will head out and begin their service projects across the community.

“Our first Day of Caring took place over a decade ago when about 30 volunteers helped out in our community," said UWCT CEO James Thurston.  "Today, we are able to mobilize hundreds of volunteers to address the ongoing needs in our community. Reaching out to help our neighbors in need is what defines the character of this community. That’s what makes it such a special place.”

Day of Caring promotes the value of volunteerism and demonstrates that neighbors helping neighbors can create positive change in the lives of Central Texas children, families and seniors. For more information on Day of Caring, please call the United Way of Central Texas office at (254) 778-8616.
