United Way of Central Texas is a volunteer organization. YOU can get personally involved in United Way's operation.

Volunteer for the Allocations Process

New Citizen Review Committee members are required to attend an allocation process training.   Volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of 2 years, although not required. Volunteers can expect to spend 3-5 hours a week during the months of January and February to complete this process. It is the role and responsibility of volunteer panel members to approach each agency and each site visit in good faith, with goodwill and without preconceptions and extraneous agendas. It is the panel member's responsibility to listen to questions as needed and learn. A volunteer's time is highly valued and critical to the United Way's success. The reward is knowing that donors' gifts are being spent on programs that have a measured outcome in the community and are making an impact.

Volunteer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

During the Tax Season, (January - April 2010) we  will be preparing tax returns free of charge for low-income families all across Central Texas.  A 16-hour training course is provided for anyone interested in learning to be a Tax Preparer at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Volunteers are also needed to serve as Greeters at the tax site.  No formal training or skills are needed to be a greeter.  We also need Interpreters onsite to help translate to non-English speaking clients. Learn more...

Volunteer for the Fund Raising Process

Campaign Cabinet members are essentially an extension of the United Way staff during our busiest time of year. Cabinet members work to build relationships with community members and leaders throughout various industries. Campaign Cabinet volunteers utilize public speaking and time management skills while developing new accounts and increasing participation at existing accounts. If you are a people person, who enjoys public speaking, this volunteer opportunity is for you! Flexible hours are available to fit your schedule with  4-6 mandatory meetings scheduled during the months of August - December.
