The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has officially chartered Student United Way on campus. Freshman psychology major Krystal Draper (left) and freshman Christian studies major Efren Collier (right) presented the proposal for the group before the Student Government Association Senate on October 11th. The group was approved by a unanimous vote.
Student United Way, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Chapter has been meeting since August and has composed several projects for the fall 2011 semester:
Student United Way is participating in the Temple Independent School District Wildcat Mentorship Program. Members have been matched with an at-risk TISD 5th grader. Members will meet with their student twice a month for the 2011-2012 school year, offering mentorship & encouragement to their assigned child.
Student United Way is currently conducting an on-campus canned food drive. The items collected will be donated to United Way agency Helping Hands.
On October 29th, the group will be on sight at United Way agency Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children, aiding in outdoor & indoor cleanup for the camp.
Student United Way will be conducting a community wide coat drive on November 18th. The event will take place at Bodega Bean in Belton. The students will be collecting coats for Central Texans in need. Donations will be distributed to United Way of Central Texas agencies Families in Crisis & Central Texas Youth Services. Come donate a coat, enjoy Bodega Bean coffee & live entertainment!!
